The thing about a book proposal is, you write it and the first draft is shit. And somehow, you are convinced you are never going to be able to make it not-shit, even though editing is a separate skill and even if you for some reason forget how to edit there's dozens of allies who know how to criticize. (Enough with that, BTW.) So I've been vacillating between "it's not funny"--which is always added later, after the basic plot is written--to "it's not interesting", but since it's long I can edit it down to the interesting parts.

I still have to figure out how to make it funny that I spent the day Ego & Hubris was released in make-up.

But since I am still at home all day, I have time to cruise the web and order new plants. Here they all, in all their sloppy glory:

The Garden

The big ones go for like $100, so I thought I'd try a baby for $7. This thing is 10 years old, so I don't know how old the huge ones are. Apparently they live in some extreme environment in the Andes or something. I really don't give a crap about cactus.

Tiny lines on the surface to absorb fog moisture. Riveting!

Never seen one for sale in the US before, this bitch has been on my list for quite a while. Hope it takes. The roots didn't look hot but the genus is quite invincible. If you rub it, it squirts a sticky milky sap from the top. OK, just kidding.

Just when I was ready to throw out this boring cactus it decides to put out flower buds, mollifying me, its GOD.

Look at this! Three months later, new leaves are PURPLE!
